If you feel like experimenting, you don’t have to limit yourself to playing with patterns, colors, and textures. The shape of your nails can be modified too, and the effect may go beyond your expectations! Some stick to rounded nails all their life, and that’s fine. However, there are so many shapes out there just waiting to be tried out! Which ones can you use?
#1 Almonds
Round at the bottom, a little narrowed at the front – almond is quite similar to a rounded shape. But at the same time, it’s much more elegant! You can easily shape your nails this way using a regular nail file.
#2 Square
Modern and modest, the square shape fits perfectly with the contemporary french manicure and bold colors.
#3 Stiletto
Very long, stiletto shape usually requires the usage of gel to prolong the structure of the nail plate. Don’t worry – the gel technique is actually perfect for weak nails with a tendency to break. Stiletto shape requires some intense treatment with the nail files of different grits.
#4 Ballerina
It’s a very classy shape for those who search for a compromise between square and sharp. Ballerina’s nails are basically almond with the cut tip. Note, however, that if you have brittle nails, this shape is difficult to achieve – even with the best nail files. If you have hybrid or acrylic nails, it’s definitely worth trying! The best is to pay a visit to a nail technician which will do the best use out of the nail buffer.

If you have short fingers and want to make them look a little longer, try out almond, oval, or stiletto. To make them look slim, choose ballerina or almond. The square shape is elegant and versatile, but we don’t recommend it if you have thicker and shorter fingers.

The grit of the nail files determines the effect you can achieve. That’s why it’s always better to have few variants. For gels, hybrids, and other types of false nails, which are much thicker, the nail buffer with a coarse grit (up to 100) will be the best choice. The higher the number, the finer the grit will be. The finest are perfect for polishing details and making the shape smoother. How to choose the best nail file? Aside from the grit, pay attention to the material. Metal nail file may be the most affordable, but sometimes, it damages the nail structure. For gel nails it will be perfect, but for natural nails – not really. If your nail plate is prone to damage, choose the glass nail file or the ceramic one.
